The problem

All supply chains face physical risks, resulting in direct risks to goods themselves. Counterfeiting, theft, tampering, diversion, substitution, and unregulated/illicit sale are known and evolving supply chain risks. As globalised commerce has increased, so has the potential for infiltration of counterfeit, fraudulent and suspect items (CFSIs).

According to a 2020 U.S. Department of Defense Industrial Capability Report to Congress, the U.S. Navy recently identified 9,009 reports of suspected parts counterfeiting related to their procurement of microelectronics and integrated circuits.

Physical risk isn’t limited to goods themselves. A 2019 report by the World Nuclear Association highlighted its concern about fraudulent test certificates related to nuclear equipment.

These concerns forced safety regulators to halt work – in some cases delaying projects by several years. These same supply chains face significant data security risks. This includes data about supplier origins, buyer destinations, custody arrangements, proprietary or sensitive intellectual property, certification information, etc.

There is an increasing need to protect digital information as bad actors become more sophisticated in mapping and penetrating sensitive supply chains.

How a Physical to Digital® authentication platform was born.

01. Intrinsic Security

We saw that many physical items are created with randomly unique distributions of intrinsic fibres and patterns.

02. One in a Septillion

Then, we did some numbers. We discovered that the odds of duplicating this ‘truly random’ distribution of fibres is at least 1 x 10 to the 24th power. That’s a big number. That’s a Septillion.

03. A Foolproof Fingerprint

This meant that these random fibre patterns could act as a unique, invisible, non-duplicable ID on paper, cardboard, polymers, wood and other materials.

04. Machine Vision

Enter technology. We developed a patented method of digitally capturing these fibres, at a 3-dimensional micron level, using standard mobile camera technology.

05. Physical to Digital®

Now, we had something. The ability to convert a physical item to a digital ID, through a completely secure, highly scalable technology.

06. Anonymously Authentic

Each Fibrecode® is converted to a unique, encrypted ID. They store no identifiable information. and can be shared across multi-party systems or stored in a blockchain.
